Nosocomial infections of the urinary and respiratory tract can lead to serious complications (e.g. pneumonia or sepsis). If these pathogens are resistant to antibiotics, the treatment of the infection is made more difficult. AmpC ß-lactamases (AmpC) can cleave all ß-lactams with the exception of cefepime and the carbapenems and thus negate their effect. Precisely for this reason, rapid diagnosis of the resistance mechanisms is a prerequisite for targeted and effective therapy without provoking further development of resistance.
