Background: Echinocandin resistance in
Candidozyma auris
C. auris is a global, healthcare-associated pathogen with high azole resistance. Echinocandins therefore remain the first-line treatment of choice, but cases of treatment-induced echinocandin resistance have increased significantly in recent years. Genomic analyses show that this resistance is very often associated with mutations in hotspot regions of the FKS1 gene (which encodes β-glucan synthase). The most common point mutation responsible is S639 (S639F, S639Y, S639P), which the present test detects with high specificity.
eazySNP C. auris FKS1 S639: A rapid, targeted molecular test for early detection of resistant C. auris strains, with no sequencing required!
Diagnostic utility is further enhanced by combining it with the eazyplex® Candida auris Kit.
Clinical and diagnostic benefits:
Real-time treatment guidance: Detection of specific FKS1 mutations supports early adjustment of antifungal therapy.
Surveillance and infection control: Fast, specific diagnostics support outbreak and cluster management and strengthen antimicrobial stewardship programs.
Focus on high-risk scenarios: Particularly relevant for urinary tract and colonization isolates, where low drug exposure is often associated with the development of resistance.
By specifically detecting reliably associated SNP variants, eazySNP provides actionable information with immediate value for clinics and laboratories.
The kit combines LAMP technology with CRISPR-Cas-based detection to deliver information on echinocandin resistance in C. auris directly from a single colony in under 1 hour. No complex, time- and cost-intensive DNA extraction required. Integrated quality controls ensure valid result reporting.
